The nine US carriers we read every time you search.

Each entry below explains how the carrier shows up in our search results, which hubs we lean into, and the cabin classes we cover. We do not have an exclusive relationship with any of them — the rankings are determined by the published fare and the schedule, nothing else.

Delta Air Lines

IATA: DL · ICAO: DAL

Delta usually wins the New York ↔ West Coast and Atlanta ↔ anywhere matrix in our results. Their basic-economy fare hides a checked-bag fee that we surface before you click through.

Hubs: ATL, DTW, MSP, SLC, SEA, JFK, BOS, LAX Cabins: Basic, Main, Comfort+, Premium Select, Delta One

United Airlines

IATA: UA · ICAO: UAL

Strong on Chicago, Denver, Houston, Newark and the West Coast Pacific. United’s premium-economy fares often beat Delta and American on the SFO transcon market.

Hubs: ORD, DEN, IAH, EWR, IAD, SFO, LAX Cabins: Basic, Economy, Premium Plus, Polaris

American Airlines

IATA: AA · ICAO: AAL

American owns Dallas/Fort Worth, Charlotte, Miami and Philadelphia in our results. They run very tight basic-economy rules — no overhead bin on most routes — which we flag in the result card.

Hubs: DFW, CLT, MIA, PHL, PHX, ORD, JFK, LAX Cabins: Basic, Main, Main Plus, Premium Economy, Flagship Business

Southwest Airlines

IATA: WN · ICAO: SWA

Two free checked bags and no change fee on standard fares. Southwest is the regular winner on Texas, Florida and Las Vegas short-hops in our search panel. Note: Southwest does not appear inside Kayak; we link to southwest.com directly.

Hubs: DAL, HOU, BWI, MDW, LAS, PHX, DEN, MCO, OAK Cabins: Wanna Get Away, Anytime, Business Select

JetBlue Airways

IATA: B6 · ICAO: JBU

Best legroom in basic economy on US carriers, plus free Wi-Fi on every aircraft. JetBlue is the regular winner on the Northeast ↔ Florida market and Boston transcon in our results.

Hubs: JFK, BOS, FLL, MCO, LAX Cabins: Blue Basic, Blue, Blue Plus, Mint

Alaska Airlines

IATA: AS · ICAO: ASA

Pacific Northwest specialist. Alaska usually owns Seattle ↔ California and Anchorage market in our search. Saver fare gets a small overhead bin, unlike basic economy on the Big Three.

Hubs: SEA, PDX, ANC, SFO, LAX, SAN Cabins: Saver, Main, Premium Class, First

Frontier Airlines

IATA: F9 · ICAO: FFT

Ultra-low-cost. Lowest sticker price out of Denver and Orlando in most weeks. Carry-on, seat selection, and printed boarding pass each cost extra — we add an estimate of the realistic fare next to the headline price.

Hubs: DEN, MCO, LAS, PHX, ATL Cabins: Standard, The WORKS

Spirit Airlines

IATA: NK · ICAO: NKS

Ultra-low-cost out of Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Detroit, Chicago. Cheapest published one-way fare on most short Florida and Caribbean trips. We surface the bag and seat add-ons before you click.

Hubs: FLL, LAS, DTW, ORD, ATL, MCO Cabins: Bare Fare, Big Front Seat

Sun Country Airlines

IATA: SY · ICAO: SCX

Minneapolis-based hybrid carrier. Strong leisure routes to Mexico, Florida, the Caribbean and West Coast. Sometimes wins MSP ↔ Las Vegas / Cancun pairs by a wide margin.

Hubs: MSP, LAS Cabins: Standard, Best, First
How we rank carriers in your search. The default sort is lowest published price for the cabin you chose. We do not adjust ranking based on whether we earn a commission — the partner that pays the highest commission is not always at the top, and that is by design.
